This summer break Christian Students on Campus will be reading through Changing Death into Life  by Witness Lee.

John was the last of the writers to contribute to what became the New Testament. His Gospel is simple yet profound. This paradoxical combination causes many readers to skim over the surface of the text without realizing that the Mariana trench lies beneath them. The good news is that the divine revelation accommodates readers of different levels, so that beginners are always nourished and advanced believers are continually amazed. The divine words grow with the one who reads them. Like the ever moving face of the ocean, the divine revelation takes on a new shape and reflects new light every time we sail across it. The Bible is a vast sea of mysteries, and the Gospel of John is no different.

Changing Death into Life is a voyage into the depths of the nine cases in John’s Gospel (chapters 2—11), showing that the divine life, which is Christ Himself, meets the need of every person. These nine cases are a picture of us. The good news in John’s Gospel is that no matter who we are or what our condition is Christ as life is our unique solution. This is why the Lord said, “I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly.” God’s desire this summer is to give us a new abundance of life so that we could be healed, enlivened, released, and built up for His glorification.

Here is the reading schedule:

Please note that each day’s reading stops with the subheading listed. So for instance, for day one you would start at the beginning of the book and read until you reach the subheading listed (“The Lord coming to weak…”). For day two, you would start at the heading listed in day one that you stopped at yesterday (“The Lord coming to weak…”) and read until listed for that day (“The Lord changing man’s death…”). So for each day you are reading from the subheading listed the day before to the one listed for that day.

How to Get the Most out of this Reading Schedule:

Pray

Begin each reading day by offering a short prayer to the Lord.

Read your daily portion

Now that your spirit has been engaged, proceed to read your daily portion, taking note of the words or phrases that you feel the Lord is using to speak to you, and acting according to those words by conversing with the Lord, by making supplications to Him, or by confessing to Him. Do not just rush through your daily reading for the sake of finishing the schedule—that is not our ultimate goal. What we want is for all of us to enter into a normal daily life of enjoying God.

Pray-read

Continue by reading the verse for that day and praying over it in order to receive into your spirit the nourishing element of the Word.

Have Companions

As you endeavor to keep this reading schedule, you will discover that it is difficult to do it by yourself. We encourage you to find companions with whom you can read through this book—find at least one! If your companions are not in town, use e-mail, Skype, phone calls, or text to pray with one another and to encourage one another to maintain the schedule.
